Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique is a holistic, soft tissue ‘hands on – hands off’ therapy that works well with the more traditional methods of treatment. The Bowen Technique affects the body primarily through the nervous and the bio-energetic systems, to bring it into a state of balance. It works on the nervous system using gentle yet powerful moves over muscles, ligaments, tendons, and fascia; the impulses sent to the nervous system remind the body to regain normal movement and initiate the healing process. The moves bring about incredible results by penetrating to a deep cellular level, incorporating the body's unique ability to heal itself. After all the body, knows how it should 'be' and how it should 'feel'.

A very important aspect of the treatment is the short gaps between the series of moves, when the practitioner will leave the room for a minute or two (the hands off element). This allows the body, and the brain, the time and space it needs to relax, assimilate, respond, and make its own adjustments. Change is not forced upon the body; it is the client’s own body, which responds to the new ‘messages’ they are receiving.

The Bowen Technique may very well be one of the single, most important tools we have to facilitate healing of the whole body. The therapy is so gentle that it can treat anyone from babies to the elderly: treatments can be done through light clothing or directly on the skin.

Bowen Technique can be used to help with back pain, sciatica, various joint disorders, menstrual problems, IBS/digestive problems, respiratory problems, migraines/headaches, sports injuries, pregnancy related stresses, M.E., R.S.I, carpal tunnel, tension/anxiety etc. One of the unique things about Bowen is its adaptability: it is excellent when used as stress management and for health maintenance. It also enhances performance and reduces incidents of injury for sports people.

Three or four treatments spaced one week apart are all that is usually required. However, chronic conditions may need longer. Follow -up maintenance sessions every six weeks are recommended to keep the body in optimum condition.
