Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage originated in India over 1000 years ago and began as a way of keeping the hair in good condition.  Based on the ancient healing system of Ayurveda, oils were traditionally used in this form of massage however; the use of oils is now optional.  In Indian society, chakras (linked to our aura or energy field) also relate to our emotional & spiritual aspects: chakras are energy wheels, linking our energy field to our physical body. If chakras are blocked, illness is the result.  IHM works on the upper chakras: crown, brow & throat chakra (sometimes heart chakra) clearing any blockages, increasing energy flow & allowing the body to heal.  One benefit of IHM is it relaxes the mind--when the mind is still the body can go about healing itself, and is now one of the most widely practiced complementary therapies for aiding stress relief and providing deep relaxation.

Treatment

Our Indian Head treatments begin with a massage of the upper back, shoulders, upper arms and neck to relax and release held tensions, followed by a scalp and face massage. Our massage can help restore joint movement, helping to stretch & mobilise the tissue of the neck and shoulders, thus helping to eliminate
muscle tensions, restore joint movement and ease headaches and eyestrain.  The massage  is done over clothing however, tops may be removed should the client wish oils to be used during the treatment.   The technique uses controlled movements and regular sessions of Indian head massage will result in a number of health benefits for the client.

IndianHead massage helps stimulate the hair and scalp and increases circulation in the body and face helping to oxygenate the muscles and tissues of the face, and relax and tone the facial muscles, and aids in lymphatic drainage by helping to remove accumulated toxins from the area.

For those who prefer not to have their face and hair worked on we also offer an Upper back massage, working on the upper back/shoulders/neck to relieve general muscular aches and pains.  Massage eases knots and tensions held in the upper body and shoulders and aids in the restoration of joint flexibility and fluidity of movement.
